CuteFTP Home - Fast and easy to use FTP client application
GlobalSCAPE Inc., company that specializes in providing secure file transfer software to be used when moving data over the internet, has been offering a series of FTP client apps for more than a decade now. The FTP (file transfer) client apps I am talking about are the CuteFTP series – CuteFTP Home is of course part of the series. In the company’s lineup of FTP client applications, CuteFTP Home is accompanied by CuteFTP Lite, CuteFTP Pro, and CuteFTP Mac Pro. Each of the versions cost money, with CuteFTP Home placing itself above the middle of the pack (price-wise).
So how much bang do you get for your buck? In order to answer this question we would have to look at what CuteFTP Home can do. You can use CuteFTP Home to transfer files from a computer to a FTP server and the other way around. You can sue CuteFTP Home to publish webpages, to transfer files no matter how large or small between your home computer and your office computer, you can download images, music, multimedia files and software.
And you will do it all with ease as CuteFTP Home is frankly very easy to use. To access a FTP server and download files from it, you need only type in a FTP address in the address bar – think of it as typing in the URL of a web page in your browser’s address bar. There’s also a connection Wizard that will help you connect to a FTP site in no time at all.
The CuteFTP Home development team’s focus on ease of use is obvious from the first time you launch this FTP client application. The first thing you will notice is the UI (user interface) with its big, easily to recognize buttons and separated windows and you will instantly understand how to use this piece of software.
There are other features in CuteFTP Home that you should be made ware of: transfers will automatically resume upon startup, you can queue and transfer multiple files at once, a HTML editor is built into CuteFTP Home, you can compare directories, set up custom commands, play with the proxy options, set up a firewall, you have the option to back up data to a remote server, advanced search capabilities and a Turbo Transfer. Security-wise, you should know that CuteFTP Home uses 128-bit SSL encryption.
Pros
Easy to use interface
Connection Wizard
Turbo Transfer
Works on Windows and Mac OS X
Cons
You can use it free of charge only for a trial period
